Adult Time’s Bree Mills Explores the Role of Consent in Porn in New AskMen Feature

Bree Mills, award-winning filmmaker and Chief Creative Officer at Adult Time, was recently featured in Drew Turney’s latest AskMen article, “Can the Porn Industry Teach Consent?”, where she shared insights into how the adult industry can influence cultural conversations about consent and sexual communication.

“People need to be educated that [the porn clips they watch] are fantasies,” Mills said. “If they see the work that goes behind them, it helps them realize the difference between the fantasy and the people making the fantasy.”
Acknowledging that many people’s first exposure to sex comes through adult content, Mills emphasized the industry’s responsibility to positively influence viewers’ perceptions of intimacy and communication. “We’re not accountable for being sex educators, but we’re definitely where a lot of people go to as their first reference point,” she explained. “I’ve translated that feeling of responsibility into the work.”
Mills also discussed the creative challenge of integrating meaningful messages about consent into adult entertainment without disrupting the viewer’s experience. “The job of a writer and director is to find ways to ‘Trojan horse’ important messages that don’t feel like a public service announcement but show good behavior within the content,” she explained.
