Wishlists in a Webcam World: How Safe are our Lists?

On October 12, 2022 by Jimmy Rocks

When it comes to safety and the amazing gifts we receive as performers from our beloved fans, it can get a bit tricky! In my experience, getting gifts from fans as a sex worker can be one of the most exciting parts of the job. That dress you’ve been eyeing for the past few weeks? It’s yours! The coffee machine for your new apartment? You’ve got it! However, when you’re setting up a wishlist, it’s extremely important to consider your safety. In this line of work, we use stage names and keep our private details, such as legal names, phone numbers and addresses private, it is essential to make sure that your wishlist service provides you with the right level of privacy.

Pretty much everyone is already aware of Amazon wishlists that many creators use to let their fans spoil them. However, if you set up your Amazon wishlist in a specific way, the buyer will still be able to see your country/state and city/town. Alternatives? Some creators get a PO box out of their city or town and use this as an address, but there is one much safer way to use Amazon for your wishlist needs that my industry friend shared with me.

Setting up Amazon wishlist discreetly

First, have two separate Amazon accounts. One is your personal account that you don’t share with anyone. It has your legal name and your address attached. The other one is your sex work account with your stage name. Don’t add an address to your work account. Make a wishlist on your work account and in the description put something along the lines of: “Pick an item you want and send me a gift card for that amount to [insert your work email here]”. When a fan sends you a gift card, add it to the balance of your personal account right away and buy the item that you want. That’s all! Now you’re all set to accept gifts from your fans through Amazon safely.

NB: Make sure to redeem the gift card and spend it right away to avoid sneaky scammers from doing a chargeback to receive your services for free!

Note from the Editor: I had never known about this until Miss Sparks wrote this article. It is extremely helpful and quite mind-blowing. I did not know this was an option. Many thanks to her and her excellent journalism skills for finding this out for all of us.

    Using anonymous wishlist services

While Amazon is the best known wishlist option to most people, there are some wishlist sites that were designed specifically to keep your personal details anonymous. The question is – do they really work, and what do people think of them?

The first one you might have heard of is DeliveryCode which, by the time of writing this article, has ceased existing. While it was a working wishlist site at some point, it managed to go downhill rather quickly, starting around the beginning of 2019. In my personal experience, I haven’t had any issues with it from 2017 until the end of 2018, but after that, using their services was nearly impossible. A lot of creators have complained that fans’ money was taken, but the creators have never received their items. Even more – the DeliveryCode support team has ignored pretty much all the enquiries about missing items. Any attempts to reach out to them via support email, Twitter or Skype were pretty much pointless.

By the end of the company’s existence, their Trustpilot rating is sitting at 1.5 stars out of 5. What can we learn from this? Use caution when accepting gifts through third party services. Even if you’ve been using a site for some time or have heard about it from several people beforehand, there’s always a chance of not receiving your items. In my situation, I apologized to the fan who was involved in this mess, and suggested he gets a chargeback through his bank.

Another commonly known example of third party wishlist services is Throne. This site has mixed reviews from its users.

My copy editor had her own experience. Vecca Salt stated “Throne was receiving mixed reviews by many performers. I heard great things and I heard not so great things. I struggled writing an article about them and I feel it is important to continue study before we do a more in-depth review. Thanks to our new staff, we have this option.”

According to some Trustpilot reviews, some users of the site have complained about lost items, long shipping times and no order tracking feature. Some adult content creators on Twitter have also complained about waiting for weeks for an ordered item, only for the amount to be refunded to them later. However, with 280 reviews at the present moment, Throne holds a 4.7-star rating on Trustpilot, with the majority of users being satisfied.

My final thoughts on Throne? Use it at your own risk if you want to. While it doesn’t seem to be as catastrophically bad as DeliveryCode was, the service still has a couple of flaws. I do not have any personal experience using Throne, since it is unfortunately unavailable in my home country.

Alternative ways of accepting gifts

If you’re not interested in using any of the methods mentioned above, but still want to accept gifts from your fans, there are some other ways.

First of all, if you’re a camgirl – creating a Lovense wishlist is a must. Add your favourite Lovense toys to your wishlist to spice up your cam shows with the help of your fans! Luckily for you, Lovense wishlist takes your privacy in mind and will never reveal any of your personal details to the buyer. On top of that – you have a fund an item option where multiple fans can make a donation towards your chosen toy. Downsides? Well, you can only add Lovense products to it. But it comes in super handy and is easy to set up. I’ve been using it for several months now and could not be happier.

Another way to accept presents from your fans is through your clip sites or cam sites. ManyVids has an option to add a store item in the ‘spoil me’ section, and it can be almost anything you want. A hairdryer, a manicure, a new dress… Whatever your heart desires! Just keep in mind that ManyVids only gives you a 60% cut of the store item earnings, which is why you need to add 40% on top of the original price. If you have a bigger purchase in mind, you can use ManyVids ‘fund me’ feature where multiple fans can contribute towards this goal. In this case, you’ll be receiving 80% of their contributions.

You can also do similar things on cam sites like Chaturbate and MyFreeCams. On both sites you can add the goal along with the picture and price of it. Alternatively, you set up a goal on MFC or use a Chaturbate bot like Fund to entice your fans to contribute towards a goal. Don’t forget that both Chaturbate and MyFreeCams only give you a 50% commission!

Final thoughts on using wishlists

While there isn’t one or a couple hassle-free ways to accept gifts from your fans without compromising your privacy, it is definitely possible.

If you want to go the old-school way – set up the Amazon wishlist as mentioned above. If you want to see if Throne works for you – try it! And if you prefer to keep your gifts on your sites, add them to your clip site or cam site today! Let me know how it works in the comments!
