Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8th, top pleasure-based sex-ed platform Beducated finds that despite decades of progress in gender equality, one gap remains frustratingly persistent: the Orgasm Gap.

Recent research reveals a striking disparity: straight men are nearly twice as likely to orgasm during partnered sex as their female partners, but when women are alone, that gap vanishes entirely. The problem isn’t that women can’t orgasm, it’s that their pleasure isn’t being prioritized. Women climax just as often as men when masturbating, yet in heterosexual encounters, many struggle to advocate for their needs.

• Penetration is still the focus. Despite overwhelming evidence that most women need clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm, mainstream narratives – shaped by porn and Hollywood – continue to frame vaginal intercourse as the gold standard of satisfying sex.

• Women aren’t encouraged to communicate their needs. Many women fear that asking for what they want will make them seem demanding, difficult, or ungrateful.
