1. How and when did you get started in the adult entertainment industry?
I began my career in the adult entertainment industry in February of 1996 when I signed with my first agent Jim South at World Modeling located on Van Nuys Blvd at that time. My best friend signed with him first. I asked her if she thought I could earn money performing similar scenes to what she was shooting in L.A. She encouraged me to try it. I decided I would travel to L.A. from the east coast for one month to see how things went for me as an adult performer, then I would return home. However, I never left! I’m still here 29.5 years later in the Hollywood Hills!
2. What advice would you give to yourself when you were new, if you could send your past self a message with the knowledge you have now?
I would tell my past self to worry less!
3. Who inspired you when you first started, if anyone, and who inspires you now – or who is someone you would maybe like to work with in the future? What attracts you to them?
When I first started modeling I was star struck and I had a hardcore crush on female fetish and porn actress Darla Crane. We first met when she was working as a BDSM model and director. Summer Cummings was also an inspiration to me. She was so sweet and fun to work with. Evil Angel’s director Aiden Starr inspires me very much in the present day. We shot together in our youthful years and we are still close friends. I admire all she has created and achieved. Most of all I really appreciate her honesty, fairness, and genuine kindness to others. I think it would be super fun to work with Brittany Andrews. What attracts me to her is her humor, her voice, her professionalism, and her longevity in the industry. Additionally, we used to work with the same people and on similar film sets in the 90’s, although I don’t think we have actually done a scene together. I think Natalie Mars is very sexy and a top notch performer. I would like to work with her as well someday. I tried to hire her for one of my own productions many years ago. She didn’t respond though. Never give up, right?
4. What has been your favorite scene, shoot, show, or event of your career, and what made it so memorable?
I was very fascinated being on set and performing for Evil Angel’s Fashionistas II directed by John Stagliano. I was cast as the reporter and participated in the group sex scene. It was quite a tremendous scene. Due to the group sex scene including a large number of performers, all of us were not on camera at the same time so I had the opportunity to watch many very famous porn stars have sex. Some were my friends, some weren’t. It was just so exciting to me to watch stars such as Rocco Siffredi performing right in front of me. I also got to witness Sasha Grey’s first porn performance of her career and listen to her talk about her 18 year old self on set during a break. We all won AVN awards for this scene. It was a multi-day production. It is a very cool memory that I enjoy revisiting.
5. Given this line of work can sometimes blur the lines between personal and professional life, how do you maintain a healthy work-life balance?
I have always found achieving and maintaining a healthy work-life balance challenging throughout the last few decades. For me, it has been important to regularly take a self-inventory of my life. Year after year, I get better at acknowledging whether what I’m doing and who I am interacting with is healthy for me and what and who is not. For me, it has been important to maintain healthy friendships with individuals outside of the adult industry, and to pursue personal goals that are truly enriching to my heart, soul, and my future self. This helps me achieve an internal balance between sex work and what is valuable in my life independent of sex work. This required me to step out of my comfort zone and explore all aspects of humanity by traveling different parts of the world to explore how other people think, feel, and live outside of the porn industry. I also implement a daily practice of immense gratitude and self-awareness of the immeasurable privileges I have acquired from 30 years of performing and directing full time as a fetish star and a porn star. I am very grateful for what I have achieved, the strong brand I have created for myself as an independent female entrepreneur, as well as all the ways sex work has expanded my thinking, my world view, and how it has enhanced my life in limitless ways. My current position in the adult industry still continues to widen my world views. I think this is extremely important and a priceless quality the adult industry can provide if a performer allows themself to be open to it.
6. How has being in the adult entertainment industry shaped your perspective on relationships, intimacy, and personal boundaries?
I have been a full time sex worker for more than 30 years, starting on the east coast and landing on the west, so it’s been a journey teaching myself how, when, and where to look for red warning flags of dysfunctional, co-dependent relationships. I’m continuing to learn and teach myself this important life tool because the adult industry now changes more rapidly than it once did. I have to keep identifying the new ways individuals approach me and evaluate if it is genuine, safe, and a trustworthy source. I am much better at this now. Regarding intimacy, I had to learn as evolved as a single woman in the adult industry what intimacy meant for me. I think intimacy can look differently, can have varying expectations, and can be experienced differently by anyone. It was important for me to hone in and discover what intimacy actually entails for me. And I notice my view of intimacy continues to change as I age and arrive at mid-life. This is an interesting observation! Enforcing personal boundaries while continuing to generate income I find more tricky than ever. Since the birth of the “fan sites,” I observe that it causes me to feel like I’m required to relinquish my own personal boundaries because the fans demand it in such a way that is so totally invasive. The new generation of fans are all mixed up and they approach me with muddied ideas that serving a Professional Dominatrix is the same thing as the GFE. It’s not. It makes me so incredibly frustrated. I far more prefer directing, film production, and education than participating directly with fans on multiple social media platforms and multiple fan sites. It is draining and the new generation of fans do not approach me with as much respect, admiration, and appreciation as they once did.
7. What makes you smile on a daily basis – whether a side hobby/project, an important place, or a familiar face in your life?
My sweet, soft, chubby, giant whiskered, tuxedo cat “Whiskerella” definitely makes me smile everyday. I love my home in Hollywood where I can see the hills, wildlife, and listen to the happy little birds chirping everyday. I also love going to my home gym class every morning. I attend the same class since the early 2000’s every week. Then lifting heavy weights and practicing unassisted pull-ups and head stands help me feel strong physically and mentally. Implementing self-discipline to be stronger in my mind and body brings me peace and grants me delayed smiles worth the wait when I recognize my improved results. I also love roller skating. Watching everyone roller skate to fun music while laughing and smiling makes me smile too. It’s contagious! Having awesome fun sex makes me smile a lot. Alas, if only this happened more often. I’m actually really good at it. Orgasms = Smiles!
8. What are your career goals for the next 2-5 years?
I am planning to build a new website before summer 2025 ends. I have needed an updated website redesign that includes a current informative profile, listing my new, recent achievements and professional changes for sometime now. It’s time to get that done! I am eager to perform in more MILF scenes, as this is a new genre for me and it has been a fun personal and professional exploration. My body of work in this genre for my production company “The Crowned Jewell Productions” as well as with adult performer colleagues and adult film studios is still growing. I plan to build upon my visibility and brand in this genre. I have a lot of ideas and goals I would like to achieve. I admit, time management is challenging!
9. Do you have any exciting news or plans in the coming months for folks to look forward to?
Well, I am turning 50 years old this month! This is quite incredible to me as I remember feeling certain “Jewell Marceau” would have to retire at age 35 because by then I would be for sure “old!” I never would have imagined that I would still be a full time adult content performer, director, creator, Professional Dominatrix, wrestler, and educator in the adult industry at age 50 and looking the best and healthiest I have ever looked in my career. (At least to me.) I think that is a phenomenal personal and professional achievement.
