Our co-owner and head journalist Rebecca Salt (@VeccaSalt) had the pleasure of interviewing adult entertainer Summer Brown this spring, and Summer came prepared to bring rock solid advice to our “Fifty Fun Follows” interview series. How did you get started in the adult industry?
I was originally a caretaker specifically in dementia care. I cared for my nannan until she sadly past, I then felt like I couldn’t be in the profession anymore, which meant I was out of work so I’ve always joked about camming until one evening I made an account and hit live did my very first stream on Cam4 around 7 years ago – the rest is history.
What have you found to be the most challenging aspect of the industry?
I would say the bullying side and the fact that models are made to be in competition with each other which causes issues. Although healthy competition is a good thing. The website I experienced seemed to not offer any support to those who really needed it.
What have you found to be your easiest marketing strategy?
I’m going to say nothing is really easy, it takes hard work effort and focus. But I’m going to say that building a strong relationship with the users is always important making sure to take the time to get to know tippers – gosh I hate calling them users or tippers, let’s say friends. And also having great social media influence again it takes time to build but it deffo [sic] helps.
What has been one of the most difficult parts throughout your journey?
Well there have been many challenges but I’m going to say the most difficult thing is the lack of support in general and for mental health, I was a victim of bullying and harassment and during that time the website I was on at the time just didn’t have the support or knowhow of how to deal with it. It wasn’t sorted and my mental health suffered along with that and again I was not helped or advised on where to go for help but in fact I was told to just keep quiet and move on.
What advice would you give someone brand new starting out?
My advice would be get a tip activated toy, they help. Also make sure to stream as much as you can in the first 2 weeks, use social media to get the word out, advertising is so important. Last thing would be to make sure you keep a schedule; being on time at the same time everyday is important so people know where you are at that time.
Do you believe in following a schedule or do you have a different outlook what it comes to your streaming?
I kind of answered that above – I really do believe that having your days scheduled and times is so important. So friends can look out for you and get excited for your shows. Planning shows can also be good to have variety.
How often do you create and post content?
I try and post most days. But due to my busy home life it is a struggle, however I make sure I try to really be posting a few times a week at the least.
What’s your view on events held by the adult industry?
Well I’ve never attended one due to the fact I’m from the United Kingdom and we don’t really have such events. However I think it’s a great thing to be celebrating all these incredible streamers.
