Sex Industry Talks with Nel Parker, Ep. 6: P. 2 Featuring Electra Rayne
On November 6, 2023 by Nel ParkerPart 2 – In part 2 of our interview with Electra Rayne of QueerCrush.com, we discuss what it meant to “be a porn star” when we were younger versus in current times, comparing Electra’s start in porn in 2015 to now. She touches on how much more creator-driven the sex work industry has become compared to the past. The topic of normalization of alternative looking models is brought up, as well as there still being some stigmatization in the industry around being gay, but bisexuality having a resurgence.
We discuss the “definition” of trans people, and the need for space for transmasc people to exist in the industry; we talk about Jaq Quicksilver and Cam Damage (and our mutual crush of Cam), notably. Electra goes on to talk about what she would do differently if she started over, knowing the things she knows now about the industry, and gives wisdom to both newcomers and veterans of the adult entertainment field.
Electra speaks on how proud she is of her work, and we get into the topic of the lack of sex education in public schools, and general lack of education as well as misconceptions about sex, sex work, and STIs, that the general public has in detail; we particularly dive into our experiences and the necessity for destigmatization of STIs and testing. Electra talks about how Exxxotica Chicago is her favorite convention of the year to attend, and about go-go dancing professionally at the event, as well as attending as an exhibitor in the near future.
We discuss her passion and talent with horses, her crazy fall plans, and her genderqueer identity. We close up by putting out the word for transmasc sapphic entertainers to join the Queer Crush brand, and by sharing how we both feel like gay Robin Hood, taking the money from rich old white men and giving it back to our queer sex work community. We trust you found our discussion on these critical subjects as engaging as we did, shedding light on the intersection of education and adult entertainment. Thank you for tuning in!
